Just tried to make a post on WebHostingTalk, and was met with the error "You need five posts before being able to use any of this board’s vB code features. Including smilies and linking to URLs."
Gee, great idea. So I can’t help somebody by providing URLs to useful documentation, until I’ve spammed the forum with 5 worthless posts? That strikes me as really sensible – not.

Guinness World Records PR Fail
Forums always had this stupid way of dealing with things .. all the moderators care about is how much posts and replys they get even if it’s 54364354 post saying 1 word thankkkkkkkk youuuu .. :D
@ZeroEffect – yep, it’s an unhealthy obsession with post counts. In this case, a helpful answer that was going to be posted could not be posted, so the quality of the forum as a whole suffers. It’s a shame, but I guess at the end of the day it’s up to them.
I can see they’re trying to fight spammers, but I think they’ve taken the wrong approach. After all, I’d bet most spamming on forums is done by scripts (or “bots”) – which could be easily coded to make 5 junk posts before posting their spam.
This is my first post
just saying HI
So I was off work and surfing and found this place and thought I would join up. I don’t have much more to say right now except I need to start reading some of the older posts to get up to speed before I can start posting.
